LDSReminderCalls, New Service for Ward Leaders

New VoIP service sends out automated reminder calls on last Sunday of the month to all Elders/High Priests and Relief Society sisters reminding them to get out and complete their visits. If visits are completed, home teachers or visiting teachers then can press 1 on their phone or 2 to leave a message on when they plan to get out. System generates a detailed PDF report that can be given to bishop at PEC meeting.

We belong to a busy church. A typical Ward makes hundreds of phone calls per month (see below). This service is designed to simplify your life and help you become more effective in your church calling by removing the burden of making phone calls to remind ward members of meetings, activities and assignments. Let our system do all the calling for you. All you do is record your message, and we call all the people you select and play your recorded message to them.

Home Teaching and Visiting Teaching, Reports are meant to be a report not a score. “If visits are completed, home teachers or visiting teachers then can press 1 on their phone or 2 to leave a message on when they plan to get out.” THIS IS WRONG!! How do I report that widow lady VoIP needs help? The announcement idea is a clever idea. However, that is what the personal visit or phone call from the Home Teachers and Visiting Teachers should be to bring the members closer. I AM SURE THIS WILL NOT MAKE IT ON YOUR RECENT COMMENTS LIST.

I have to agree with David. There’s already a problem in the Church with people focusing too much on the programme of home teaching rather than the principle behind the programme. Automated phone calls will never address this issue.

There is also a lack of PPIs between home teachers and priesthood leaders. This will further encourage this lack. PPIs are the best tool to understanding not only home teaching stewardship, but the needs of ward families as well.

When I first saw this site, I thought it was a joke. You know, one of those facisious articles that make takes things to an extreme to make a point. This is so far from the spirit of the program that I can’t believe it is serious. We should never be too busy to care about each individual we watch over. I hope no one is using this site. I don’t imagine that the Lord would be too pleased with our service when it is time to account for how we fulfilled our responsibilities.

The service is not meant to replace HT/VT PPI’s. It is meant to remove the burden of many other types of reminder calls that are made in a ward/stake. For example, we’ve had stake presidents record a friendly invitation to attend stake conference and then send out the call to all members of the stake. It’s cheaper than sending out post cards to everyone, like many stakes do. We also have members of ward auxiliaries using the service to remind people of meetings, assignments, etc. You can see numerous examples of how people are using it on the home page.

By the way, we agree that it should not replace interviews, checking up on people’s conditions in the ward, etc., etc., just to be used as “reminder” calls as the name implies.

I am secretary in our ward Relief Society presidency. Months ago I found a very useful form on the internet that helped me in reporting ‘inactive’ sisters. I’ve been trying to locate the form again. In my search, I have come across several variations of a tracking system some sisters have ‘created’ to track monthly visiting teaching contacts. My question is why are you not using the church’s MLS program available in all wards? Even in our stake there were only two out of nine of us secretary’s who used this in-place system! I was told by our ward clerk when he was training me to use this system that I had as much right to visit the clerk’s office to use the computer as any of the brethern. It is a WONDERFUL program, you can print any list you could ever imagine, and does all the tracking for you in a very user friendly format! Why reinvent the wheel when there’s already a great system in place?!

I can see both sides. I don’t think I like the idea for visiting and home teaching. I think it might be a good idea to send out reminder calls about events or mutuals to ACTIVE members. I don’t think it is appropriate for inactive members, as they need the person to person fellowship and contact. In our BYU wards in married student housing, the phones were set up to send 1 message to everyone. It’s kind of the same idea. However, at BYU the good majority of ward members were active.
