Home Teaching Interviews, and how they work…
- The secretary/VT coordinator schedule the appointments with each HT/VT companionship. It’s important that they both come to the interview, not just the “senior” companion.
- It’s up to the leader who does the actual interview (and how many interviews there will be). What I do in my ward is divide the interviews between myself and one of my counselors, and the other counselor and EQ secretary. That way I’m not burned out of doing a ton of interviews in a short period of time.
- These are what I call “return and report” interviews. We don’t talk too much about if a visit is being made, but we do talk a lot about how the companionship is working, and especially how the families that are assigned to that companionship are doing. I want to find out specific things, such as: How is the family doing financially, spiritually, emotionally, mentally, etc. Are there any issues I need to bring before the Bishop? Any special needs?
I open each interview with a prayer, and give a short inspirational “pep talk” about home teaching, then spend most of the time asking questions of the companionship. n’t heard of too many Relief Societies that do this, but I think it’s a great idea to understand the needs of your group.
